Go Melissa!

I know I've been absent from this place lately, but I am working hard to stay caught up on all-three kids, one marriage (harder than everything else at the moment ;) and home duties plus work and blogging-uggh! So, really-TV has been my escape, and I have a few things to say.

Being from Seattle, I just want to point out that the Bachelor, Jason, does NOT live in Seattle. He is from KIRKLAND, which is a suburb of Seattle that is populated mostly by single, divorced or just plain horny people. I know- I lived there. In my opinion, this completely explains his eratic behavior. Just stop saying he is from Seattle, PLEASE!

On top of that, I have to say that I am SO HAPPY for Melissa-the winner, no LOSER (NO- Winner!) of the Bachelor this year. Even though she went through the heart break of having Jason (ass) break up with her on TV, AFTER he chose her and proposed-she is now dancing her way to 30 (x6) minutes of fame. I can only hope that, when Jason's 24 year old realizes what she's gotten herself into, Melissa refuses to answer Jason's calls.

Sorry, Jason. I loved you when.....

Heidi Klum is ridiculous!

Ridiculously hot that is, so when a relatively unknown German designer called Heidi "too fat" for the runway-she responded in the best way possible. Reporters asked Heidi about the designer's edict. She seemingly laughed off the comment and asked the reporter what he thought.

Now, being from Seattle (notorious for socks and 'stocks) I had to add this to my Heidi Klum mention. She has designed several styles for Birkenstock, including the bejewelled pair below.

What do you think?

Possessive much?

While looking for a Valentine's day gift for my man, I found these online-GPS panties! Is it just me, or does this frighten you too?

Feather

Ever wish for a personal stylist? Check out Feather, a blog that suggests outfits daily based on the weather report. Written by Melissa from The Lil'Bee (another favorite of mine), Feather presents outfits that are pulled together with that "je ne sais quoi" that we all hope to master. Love it!

Not so Mellow Yellow

photo: The Sartorialist

Personally, I can't wear yellow against my face-it totally washes me out, but I love the way yellow livens up an outfit-like this. I find yellow shoes especially fetching:

Top: 1, 2: Old Navy Bottom: Boden USA, Old Navy

The rain boots are only $24.50, or you could try Saks Fifth Avenue for a similar version at $115.

And, who can forget the beautiful Latika from "Slumdog Millionaire" dancing joyously at the end of the movie in her huge yellow scarf?

Urban Outfitters, Boden USA, Target

Grab a bright yellow hand bag on your way out the door to transform a drab outfit.

Slipstitch Satchel, Urban Outfitters; Tory Burch Clutch, Nordstrom; Rebecca Minkoff canvas tote, Nordstrom.

Or, if you are blessed enough to have some pigment in your skin, try framing your face with sunshine:

Earrings: Old Navy; watch:Boden USA; Necklace: J.Crew

What is your favorite way to wear yellow?

So that’s why they call it the Golden Globes!

Ok- I can’t resist making a comment about the attire at the Golden Globe awards last night. I admit to being somewhat of an awards ceremony addict (any night I can curl up on the couch with a Bloomacious Belini is a night to look forward to). This year the fashion was a bit strange for me-it was as if the AFPA issued a memo saying “We suggest you wear a strapless, belted frock-but if that doesn’t suit you, wear something devoid of color.” Yuck!

There were of course a few notable exceptions. For me, Drew Barrymore was the belle of the ball (despite Christina Applegate’s nod to Beauty and the Beast, with her butter yellow frock). I think that Drew should be awarded the Most Improved Overall Look award-given last years appearance. While I loved the green color she wore in 2007 (2008 awards were cancelled due to the writer's strike), the fit was atrocious-and I am glad she has returned to the land of the blonde!

The lovely Linda Darnell

I’m pretty sure at this point that I was born in the wrong decade given my fascination with vintage design. I have blogged almost non-stop at IndDecor about my love for vintage looking accessories and shoes. These pieces are my current favorites. The Greta at Love Lu Lu Mae is a fabulous looking headband featuring pheasant feathers and a vintage brooch accent. The other piece, from House of Telsa on Etsy uses my current favorite color combo: silver and yellow. Also try Ban.do for an amazing assortment of headbands and hair accessories-each piece is a work of art!

Now, if I only had some place to wear one……

Your Slip is Showing!

InStyle magazine featured these delicious little meant- to- be- shown- off slips in the recently published  January issue. While the men’s wear for women trend is holding steady (or even gaining strength?)-  I love these super girly pieces to accent any plain old dress. I want them all!

Ready, Set, Go!

What better time to start a new blog than the month of January? This is my second blog-the first of which is devoted to interior design. I just can't seem to stop writing about fashion though, which is why I created Spade and Jane. This space will be devoted to fabulous designs and designers, trends, cosmetics and all that makes us lovely! I hope you enjoy visiting, and I would love to hear from you!
